NovaSure® in Colorado Springs, CO

What is NovaSure?

NovaSure is a minimally invasive, endometrial ablation procedure to remove the lining of your uterus in the treatment of heavy uterine bleeding.

The NovaSure system uses radiofrequency technology to remove the uterine lining, known as the endometrium, without the need for incisions. Your provider performs the NovaSure procedure in-office in five minutes or less.

Am I a candidate for NovaSure?

NovaSure is only an option for women who want to treat heavy uterine bleeding and are done having children.

NovaSure allows you to keep your uterus and is less invasive than a hysterectomy. Your Associates in Obstetrics & Gynecology provider can determine if NovaSure is the right procedure for you by reviewing your medical history and discussing the severity and frequency of your heavy bleeding.

Before undergoing a NovaSure procedure, your provider may suggest conservative therapies, like hormone therapy using birth control pills or the Mirena® intrauterine device (IUD).

What happens during a NovaSure procedure?

NovaSure endometrial ablation involves the insertion of a slender wand in the vaginal canal to access your uterus. When the wand is in place, your doctor deploys a net from the instrument that covers your uterine lining. They deliver controlled amounts of radiofrequency energy that travels through the net for about 90 seconds to remove the uterine lining.

Once the procedure is complete, your provider removes the wand, netting, and uterine lining from your vaginal canal.

How long does it take to recover from NovaSure?

It’s normal to have some discharge, spotting, and cramping following a NovaSure procedure. These symptoms resolve on their own within a few days as your body heals.

While NovaSure is only an option for women who no longer want to conceive a child, pregnancy is still possible following the procedure. For this reason, your Associates in Obstetrics & Gynecology provider discusses your options for birth control prior to your procedure to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Becoming pregnant after a NovaSure endometrial ablation can be dangerous to both you and the baby.
