Labiaplasty in Colorado Springs, CO
What is labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that focuses on restoring vaginal anatomy. You may benefit from a labiaplasty to improve vaginal function or to rejuvenate your vaginal health.
For function
This type of procedure, also known as vaginoplasty, may be necessary if vaginal atrophy or other issues are causing sexual dysfunction or reducing your sexual gratification.
The purpose of a vaginoplasty is to repair and tighten tissues and muscles in the vaginal canal to improve sexual sensations. You can also address minor to moderate urinary stress incontinence, a condition that causes urine leaks when you cough, sneeze, or laugh.
For aesthetics
You may also choose to have a labiaplasty as a cosmetic treatment to improve your vagina’s appearance.
The purpose of this procedure is to address vaginal tissue changes that result from aging or childbirth, such as trimming away excess labial tissue and tightening external structures to give your vagina a healthier, more youthful appearance. You can also get a labiaplasty if you’re unhappy with the appearance of your vagina for any reason.
If you’re not a candidate for vaginoplasty or labiaplasty, but still want to improve your vaginal health, your Associates in Obstetrics & Gynecology provider may recommend noninvasive MonaLisa Touch® laser treatments to revitalize dry, thin vaginal tissue.
What’s involved in a labiaplasty?
Depending on your needs and surgical goals, Dr. Tubbs or Dr. Mikaelian may be able to perform a labiaplasty in-office as an outpatient procedure. More complex procedures may require a brief hospital stay.
Dr. Tubbs and Dr. Mikaelian follow a custom surgical plan to make the necessary repairs to your internal and/or external vaginal tissues. He focuses on your individual anatomy and aesthetic goals to achieve optimal results.
How long does it take to recover from a labiaplasty?
Following a labiaplasty or vaginoplasty, you can expect to need time off from work and your usual routine to recover. It’s normal to experience pain in the surgical area for several days. Associates in Obstetrics & Gynecology recommends medications to keep you comfortable and control swelling. You may also need to take a course of antibiotics to prevent infection.
The team also provides after-care instructions to promote total healing when you’re recovering at home. You can expect to avoid intercourse for two weeks or more and may need to limit strenuous exercise and other activities until your muscles heal.
As the swelling resolves, you can begin to see the results of your labiaplasty or vaginoplasty. In the weeks after your procedure, practicing pelvic floor strengthening exercises enhances your recovery and helps rebuild your vaginal muscles.
